Supporting our Polish Community

25th May 2017

Here at Bells, European workers are the engine room of our Bakery production accounting for over 30% of our fantastic team. We are proud of our diverse workforce and as such try to support and encourage them both inside and outside the workplace.

Jarek – a loyal, Polish member of our team with service at Bells of over 10 years, is the founder of Vistula – Polish Community Association in Cumbria. Vistula work closely with other Polish, British and multicultural organisation to organise events, workshops and festivals. They also have a thriving Saturday school to support Polish families’ integration into British life, through teaching language, sports and education etc.

The association was established nearly 8 years ago and relies on support from individuals and businesses as well as the Cumbrian County Council. At Bells we have taken the decision to support this amazing project by sponsoring this organisation to help cover the insurance and school activities costs.

Jarek was thrilled with the sponsorship, saying: “Personally when I meet people who support us, this is a moment when I feel like: “Jarek this is a right moment, keep going and don’t stop” and gives so much positive energy and boost to further action.

Our MD Michael Bell said, “Many Polish employees across Bells have been positively affected by the work Vistula have carried out and we are delighted to be able to give something back.”

Bells will continue to explore avenues and ways that they can support Vistula further in the coming months and years, to continue to build and support our multi-cultural communities.
